I have been blogging for nearly 15 years now—gosh, I feel so old. Like most, I started on Blogger and then moved to WordPress.com. From WordPress, I moved to Tumblr, to Medium, and to Jekyll for a short period and then a self-hosted WordPress. Sometimes, I wonder why Google is still keeping Blogger alive. I know people are still using it. But Google killed Google Reader when people were still using it and loving it.

Back to the topic, I switched from a self-hosted WordPress to Ghost for a short period to give it a try. But looking back at what happened in the world of WordPress the last couple of months, I honestly feel pretty good about moving away from WordPress.

However, managing Ghost as a self-hosted thing was a pain, I had difficulty logging back into my account from a different device after updating to the latest version, plus hosting the blog on a VPS while paying for it felt like a bummer.

So I decided to try out Hugo. I have been learning Go for the last 3-4 months, and I’m loving it. It’s one of those languages that I instantly fell in love with and learned the basics within a couple of days. So I decided to try Hugo, which is written in Go, and this is my first post in Hugo.

I am using NeoVim to write the post. I have written a couple of posts about ‘how difficult it is to start a blog’ and I still believe that starting a blog is now difficult because most platforms try to be a CMS or a website builder, whereas things like Hugo and Jekyll are for people who can use a text editor and build and deploy it on a hosting provider.

I don’t know how long I will use Hugo but let’s give it a try.
